#STLFW: Caleres Emerging Designer Award Presented by STL Fashion Fund

by June Ann D'Angelo

Last night fashion week in St. Louis kicked off it's series of 3 main fashion presentations with the Emerging Designer Award runway show. I literally saw looks from each designer that I wanted to work into my wardrobe. After the show I met up with some of my favorite STL fashion voices in the city (Laura Heying, Weird Cult(ure); Robby Baker; Katy Noonan, Living Collective) to rehash and it seems my favorites, NOVIS and Houghton, got everyone else a little wet with excitement as well. Although the print choice by NOVIS was rather polarizing, I found the use of them quite breathtaking. But nothing could touch the silhouettes and cohesion of Houghton that earned Katharine Polk a huge $25,000 cash prize!!!

Here's a little video of all the action below and to see individual looks in more detail, please checkout ALIVE Magazine's coverage by clicking HERE.

Furthering the passion to spotlight a new generation of innovative fashion designers, the mission of the Caleres Emerging Designer Award presented by Saint Louis Fashion Fund is to offer a platform for aspiring designers to gain the attention of national press and buyers, and to offer the grand prize of a cash grant to one designer.

#MOONSTYLE: 420ed - comfy while ripped

by June Ann D'Angelo

what to wear on 4-20? always a debacle... one you might think much about if you obeyed all 4-20 rules and partook in the wake n' bake. today, seeing as how it is a bit chillier in the Lou from some fun rain yesterday and i'll be hitting up a party later tonight with some meetings in between, i decided to go uber casual while playing with some prints so i can try to maybe say i might be 'in fashion'. nah...who the fuck cares about that? it's all about having fun and being functional. so i threw on some free people harem pants and paired them with these obnoxiously-brilliant Joe Boxer wallpaper shoes with an old Roots sweatshirt that's completely ripped up at the sleeves... i don't know about you, but i will definitely be comfy and warm...and high!

#MOONFASHION: Ceremony of Separation (Comme des Garçons Fall 2015 RTW)

Ceremony of Separation: Comme des Garçons Fall 2015 RTW

Designer Rei Kawakubo's latest Comme des Garçons collection, which the cult figure herself described as a "ceremony of separation”, was presented during Sunday's solemn show in the Mineralogy Gallery at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle.

EVENT REVIEW: Michael Drummond Showroom Opening

by June Ann D'Angelo

What: Michael Drummond Showroom Opening

When: July 17, 2014

Where: SKIF International (2008 Marconi Avenue)

Simply said...if you were not at SKIF International on July 17, 2014, you missed an amazing night to celebrate the new home of Michael Drummond's extravagantly delicate knitwear. Immediately walking up to the space, you are hit with the mannequins draped in woven designs that are so intricate, much like how Charlotte would have made her webs. Guests, such as ALIVE Magazine's fashion editor Sarah Stallman, Project Runway-alum Laura Kathleen and Brainchild Events and Rock Uniform owner Dwight Carter, were greeted by the enormous SKIF International workspace made famous by Nina Ganci's knit sweaters from 'The Matrix'. Michael Drummond and the SKIF crew even went out of their way to cook and prepare delicious homemade snacks like vegan macaroni and cheese to dazzle the tastebuds along with the fashion senses. Once you move into the showroom, you can not help but touch and feel and stand with your bottom jaw on the floor. The careful construction and attention to detail really elevate Michael Drummond's unique design aesthetic. Outside of knitwear, Michael Drummond also brings his brilliant RTW leather harness work so that even in St. Louis you can shop one of the hottest trends at the moment! Make sure to get out to the Hill and find that amazing piece to add to your own wardrobe!!!
